Vintage Mermaids, fish and seahorses truly represent 1950's Americana. These beautiful nautical decorations were sold in pottery shops and yards, 5 and 10 cent stores, department stores, and gift shops, and could be found in home bathrooms throughout the United States and Canada. Everyone had a set of ceramic fish or mermaids, or knew of a mother, aunt or grandmother, who had a set decorating their bathroom. Almost every manufacturer and pottery shop in the US and Japan was producing mermaids and fish in the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The most popular manufacturers were Lefton, Norcrest China Company, Enesco, Ceramicraft Tropic Treasures, Freeman-McFarlin, Heidi Schoop, Josef Originals, Kay Finch, Napco, Bradley Exclusives, Ucago Ceramics Japan, CNC Los Angeles and Japan, DeForest of California, Gilner Culver City California, Irene Smith, Joty, Florence Ceramics, Kay Finch, Kelvin Exclusives, Nameth Enterprises, Pandora Potteries, PY Japan, and S.L. Cluter. You also see many sets that are unsigned because the label was removed over time, or the piece was made by an individual or small pottery shop that didn't mark their pieces. The brightly-colored fish and bubbles, and the beautiful mermaids, with their flowin-hair and cute, frolicking seahorses will live on through the ages and bring timeless enjoyment and rewards to collectors of all ages. Sandy also creates mermaids, fish and seahorses from vintage molds. She has a section on her website for those mermaid collectors that want vintage style mermaids or sea creatures, but the originals either don't match their color schemes, or the originals are too expensive. These one of a kind mermaids, seahorses, fish, whales, starfish, and bubbles are made by Sandy Shores from 1940's and 1950's vintage molds. Sandy has over 300 ceramic and chalkware nautical molds, most of which she made from her original vintage pieces because, as most of you know, manufacturers do not sell their molds. Since Sandy is a professional artisan, your custom item will have a professional look rather than "home-made." Color charts are given to pick from, however if you have an exact color you want matched, you will need to send Sandy a sample.

My custom reproduction vintage mermaids, seahorses, fish, whales, octopus, squid, bubbles and go-withs are made from vintage molds I have acquired over the years - I have over 300 now!. You can select the vintage mermaid style you want and and have it designed to match your decor, and even your child's hair/eye color! I have listed the ones most frequently requested by my customers, but there are a lot you don't see here so ask if you are looking for a particular vintage mermaid and I most likely will have it! I am a professional Artisan and use only the best products on my designs including professional paints, vintage flowers/jewelry and Swarvoski rhinestones to attain a professional look rather than a "home-made" look. I have drawer fulls of vintage jewelry and shells... I even have vintage glitter! On some of the larger items (ie fish and whales) I use a combination of airbrush and hand painting. Some of my customers like a lot of "bling" on their mermaids; some like designs more true to the vintage piece - I'm a Gemini so I can put on either hat and do them both ways! The turnaround on my custom art is typically 2-3 weeks. I am a very organized person (as you can tell from my website!). Your order is confirmed with a written document outlining exactly how you want it done and the timeframe for completion; and, you are sent an email with a picture when your set is complete so you can approve it meets your expectations prior to shipping. MD111 - Sitting Diva Mermaid with Long Ponytail - $165

6.5" sitting diva mermaid. This is one of the two mermaid figurines I make to sit on the counter. She is a really pretty sitting mermaid that is a very custom design for you. I have created her in a lot of different ways. The example shows her with a pearl tailfin, large shell flower in her hair and transparent bubbles dripping off her to give the appearance that she just came in out of the water! The mermaid can sit on top of the flower go-with, or along side of it - the large flower dips down in the middle so you could use it as a trinket or coin dish! I also show another example of this mermaid in yellow with gloves and rhinestones. Then some I have made without the flower go-with and designed the mermaid with seashells all over the breast and coming down from the tailfin. This is a very custom design - you give me your vision of how you want her to look!

CM242 - Sailors Valentine Mermaid Set - $150

This mermaid set is done in the Sailors Valentine tradition which consists of making designs out of seashells. The tailfins are embellished with natural Apple Blossom shells, slivers of shells are used for the ribbons coming out of the shells, and pearls have been added to the headpiece and tailfins. The Apple Blossom and Pink Cup shells go with just about every color, but just keep in mind they have a pink tint when selecting your tailfin color. The center of the flower is a small snail shelll and those can be any color, typically I use a shade of pink but green or white snail shells in the middle would have looked nice on this example set too. If you had yellows in your bath area too, maybe you would have wanted to pick a yellow center. The possibilities are endless! Mom is 9.5". In the example mom has medium brown hair and the babies have dark brown and blonde hair. The baby mermaids' arms come out off the wall - the blonde one looks cute with a fish stuck under her arm so it looks like she is hugging or petting the fish.. The mom was made from a 1950's vintage Freeman-McFarlin mold; fish from Lefton mold, and babies from vintage Japanese mermaid mold.

CM211 - Double Fin Mermaid - $95

This is a delicate mermaid that is very rare and unique. She is made from a vintage Enesco mermaid mold and is 7.5 wide and 5" tall. Vintage jewelry is used for the headpiece and she has just a little bit of micro sparkle glitter on her to give her tailfin twinkle. You can select the tailfin color and the vintage jewelry and rhinestones will be selected to coordinate with your color choices and vision of this lovely mermaid. This mermaid is very difficult to mold and create because of all her parts coming off the wall, ergo her high price. But she is just so different and beautiful that she will be one of your prized mermaids. The original sells for around $400!

MS208 - Lefton Flower Plaque Mermaid & Fish - $75

This is a cute wall plaque and is really different. I use a vintage Lefton flower wall plaque and then add a fish and mermaid and bubble on the plaque. The other two bubbles are placed on the wall. The wall plaques come with yellow, blue and pink flowers. I don't paint the flowers on the Lefton wall plaque, they are left the original color so the mermaid is made to compliment the color of the flowers. Some of the plaques have so much wear to the gold on the side I have to repaint the gold on and make it a wider band - the pink one has the original band and the green one I have painted the band because there was hardly any gold left on the two thin bands. I can use either of the 2 Bradley mermaids on this plaque (look at #198). Some customers have asked me to put all the bubbles inside the plaque like the pink one - it's your choice! The Lefton plaque is about 7" tall.

CM205 - Waving Mermaid with Large Seahorse - $85

This is really cute wall plaque set - the seahorse is very large, 12" and he is painted with an airbrush and then either silver or gold highlighting hand applied. The baby mermaid is made from a Bradley Exclusives mermaid but I have revised the mold so that her hand that used to hold an arrow is waving instead. She looks like she is petting the big seahorse guy! The example set I used silver on the seahorse fins and rhinestones with silver settings on the mermaid. The mermaid flowers match the seahorse colors.

Note that I have the mermaid and two small seahorses on a leash in # CM089.

CM204 - Ponytail Mermaid with Large Seahorse - $85

This is really cute wall plaque set - the seahorse is very large, 12" and he is painted with an airbrush and then either silver or gold highlighting hand applied. The baby mermaid is from one of the rarest Freeman McFarlin sets. Her tailfin and headband match the color of the Seahorse. She can sit on the starfish or can be up close and looking at the seahorse. The example set I used silver on the seahorse fins and rhinestones with silver settings on the mermaid.

Note that I have the mermaid and a smaller seahorse in # CM022.

CM197 A & B - Mermaids Holding Fishie - $60

This is a wonderful mermaid set made from the Bradley Exclusives mermaid mold. They are about 7" tall. The set to the right was made to look very vintage. Stain was used on their hair to give a lot of depth to the hair color, a light vintage pink was used for the tailfin color, gold is applied as highlights to the bubbles, fish and tailfin... even the glitter used on the body of the tail is a course vintage glitter. That's right, I purchased a number of small containers of 50 year old glitter to use on the ones I want to have a very vintage look. I also did the eyelashes a lot shorter than I usually do as that's how they were on the vintage pieces. I think solid white bubbles go better with this set but you can have them either way, with some gold highlighting on them or solid white. Although I like them this way the best, I realize there are a lot of different decors out there so I've also included two I've made using different techniques in the larger picture. Just let me know which style you want them made in. In the other examples I show one in yellow that has yellow shading in her hair and peach shaded in on her tailfin to go with the peach fish she is holding. The green set is loaded with glitter on the tailfin. Although the sister on the right originally had her eyes closed, I am often asked to paint them open so that is an option. Please specify if you want mermaid A or B. If you are selecting B, remember that I will make her with her eyes closed unless you tell me different. Also specify if you like the short eyelashes or the more whispy, long eyelashes.

CM192 - Pinup Mermaid Sisters - $75 each

This is a beautiful set of mermaids made from a very rare set of vintage pinup mermaids. The originals were done with a black tailfin and bare breasted. They are good sized mermaids at 10.5" tall. The set in the example is done in turquoise with sparkle and tiny beads on the tailfin/outfit and a flower in the hair. 3 bubbles are included with the set. You can order them in any color hair and tailfin. The flower will be coordinated with the tailfin color. You can also order these more like the originals where the tailfin starts at the waist and they are bare breasted. Please specify A for the one on the left and B for the one on the right.

CM183 - Barbie Mermaid - $65

This is a pretty mermaid wall plaque that my customers named "Barbie." She is made from a vintage Freeman McFarlin mole and is 8" tall. Although her tailfin was made to show a lot of her behind, some people have asked me to raise up the tailfin color and I can do that if you want. She just screams retro and is the look every manufacturer tried to capture back in the 50's. I also include a starfish and 3 bubbles. Favorware made a reproduction of her but it is no where near the detail on this beauty. You can probably tell I like this mermaid a lot as I use her with different baby mermaids in other listings.

CM182 - Mermaid Mom with Baby - $65

This is a pretty mermaid mom with short hair, a ponytail baby, bubbles and a small fish. The picture shows some small beads on her and the baby's tailfin and hairband. You can have the beads in gold or silver and she can be done in any hair/eye/tailfin color. She is about 8" tall. .

CM175 - Standing Mermaid - $55 each

Make sure you click on the picture to the right to see larger pictures of this set. It is really beautiful and I have some nice examples in different colors with closeups. This mermaid wall plaque set is so unique, they look to be standing on their tailfins! They were made from a vintage Lefton mermaid mold. A starfish is included with the mermaid. Your mermaid can be done with any hair/eye/tailfin color. Just a gorgeous mermaid that is about 8" tall. Please specify A for the one on the left and B for the one on the right.

CM174 - Upside Down Mermaid with Sea Pal - $65

Now this is a different type mermaid wall plaque that was originally made by Sega... she is resting on a shell with her tail up in the air! She can be made with a starfish friend or a whale friend. The mermaid is 6" tall and with the shell she is 9" tall. Her skintone is blended into the tailfin color. The mermaid is clutching a starfish. Please note that the one with a starfish I cut out the starfish she was holding but I no longer to that as it too a loooog time to cut that out - she will now always be clutching that starfish. Underneath the mermaid arms is cut out so the shell slips in. Please Specify A if you want the starfish with the mermaid, and B if you want the whale.

CM161 - Kewpie Mermaid - $45 - $68

This beautiful mermaid is 10" long and originally made by Christie Lee out of Redlands, California. Her size plus being horizontal rather than vertical really makes a nice wall display. She looks great with a simple design of gold hair and colored tailfin, but she looks spectacular with a lot of embellishments! When I use embellishments, I have the hair color more of a brown than bright gold. I can put a small piece of vintage jewelry in their hair or I can but a bouquet of flowers. I have shown a few examples of designs to choose from, each one gives the mermaid a different look... a deco mermaid, a victorian mermaid and a nature mermaid. :) Be sure to click on the small picture to bring up the big pictures of these beauties. Please note each piece of jewelry is one of a kind on the ones on the right so yours will be slightly different - but don't worry, you get a picture to approve before I mail it. Specify A for the one top left without embellishments; specify B for one you want me to design with embellishments.

CM157 - Mermaid with Starfish - can be made pregnant or not! - $65

What a beautiful and unique mermaid. This is my creation, using a vintage mermaid as the model that I got from a friend of mine in London. Modifications were made to the original mermaid... one most obvious. :) This is a large mermaid standing 10" tall. There are two beautiful starfish that go with her that were made from an Enesco mold, the largest of which is 6" in diameter. I always put a pearl earring on her but you can select to not have any jewelry if you wish. The starfish have fine gemstone sparkles on them..... and the mermaid has just a very little bit sprinkled on her tailfin to give it a very little sparkle. I have a mold of her with or without the big tummy.

CM141 - Mermaid on Shell - $78

This is a very unique mermaid on a shell originally made by Lefton. I have added some pretty vintage flowers and rhinestones in her hair and also on her tailfin to give her an even more elegant look. If you would like her without the vintage jewelry and just a simple flower in her hair, let me know. She comes with a small seahorse on a chain. She is 6"x 6 and a rather thick piece.

CM119 - Ponytail Mermaid - $48 - $85

This mermaid is SOOO cute! I make her with a lot of different go-withs. You can order just the mermaid, or the mermaid and go-withs. The original came with an umbrella and I go all out when making her with that umbrella in that I put a shell flower in the middle and crushed shells on the ruffle of the umbrella and also on her tailfin. She is 5" tall. Please note the different shades of hair color in the pictures. I think she looks best with light colored hair so I have used pearl white, very light blonde, and a darker blonde. Glitter can be added to the tailfin and bubbles for no additional charge.

CM103 - Mermaid with Seahorses, Starfish and Bubbles - $90

This mermaid set is one of the most popular for those that don't want mermbabies but want other nautical things to go with the mermaid. It is made from a vintage mold of the Freeman McFarlin Wide-eyed mermaid and the Lefton Seahorses. The leash is attached to the mermaid by a hook on her underside by her clutched arms. I give you a long leash and you can rein them in or out on the hook. The ends of the leash are embedded in the seahorse collars. The mermaid is 9" tall and the seahorse is 3" tall. You can select any tailfin/bubble/starfish/seahorse color and hair/eye color. For the example set I used red micro bubbles on her tailfin. I am limited in colors on the micro bubbles to gold/silver/red.

CF074 - Frogs and Shell Nautical Wall set - $35

These frogs are from a new mold rather than vintage but I had to add them here as they are SO cute! Beautiful shades of green and pink have been airbrushed on the set to give a professional ceramic look. The shell is 3 x 3 and each frog is 2" tall. The set takes up about the same space as an 8 x 10 picture so would look nice somewhere you just need a touch of pink/green nautical wall art. The guy frog is laying on top of the shell trying to make a decision between the two girl frogs!. Very sweet set to go with your vintage or new nautical wall art.

CM061 - Sailor Valentine Mermaid Sitting - $48

This is a cute mermaid with a shell design on both her tailfin and in her hair. In this example I used natural irridescent crushed shells on the tailfin, and then the shell flowers are a nice Amber pearl. A little bit of yellow shading was used on the tailfin to pick up the amber color. She comes with 3 bubbles - look at the larger picture as she really looks cute sitting on one of the bubbles. The bubbles were painted the same color as the flowers but you could request white bubbles. The shells used were an off white color, and they were painted the amber pearl color - since I paint these shells, this mermaid can be made with different color tailfin and shell flowers. She was made from a mold of the Vintage Bradley Exclusives mermaid and is about 4" tall.

CM060 - Sailor Valentine Mermaid Sleeping - $45

This is a cute mermaid with a shell design on both her tailfin and in her hair. In this example I used natural Pink Cup and Apple Blossom shells for flowers and also used them as crushed shells on her tailfin. The tailfin is a soft blue with pink shading. She has blonde pearl hair and 3 pink bubbles. Since I used natural shells on this mermaid, the shells will always be the same color but you could pick a different color tailfin that would go good with these soft pink shells. This cutie was made from a mold of the Vintage Bradley Exclusives mermaid and is about 4" long.

This is a cute wall plaque that was made from a vintage Relpo vase - it was modified to make her a mermaid!

All bubbles can be colored in the regular paint colors, airbrush paint colors, or gold/silver. You can also have them shaded, with glitter or gold highlighting applied. See examples and how they look with mermaids in the larger picture. These are large bubbles - 5" long. These are the "raindrop" bubbles that came with the Enesco mermaids with umbrellas. If you get these to go with your unbrella mermaids, you may want to ask for some gold highlighting on them like the originals.

CO161 - 3 Gratuating Sized Starfish SILVER - $25

Nice set of silver starfish to mix in with your mermaids, fish and seahorses! These are made from a newer mold and look similar to the starfish I have in CO159 but they are flatter on the back. They can be made as wall plaques or they can be made to sit flat on a counter to mix in with figurines. They are a great go with as you can have them hanging in a group by themselves, mix them in with mermaids/seacreatures, and even have mermaids sitting on them on a counter!. The sizes are 6", 4", and 3".
